Greenland’s prime minister loses Siumut chairmanship

Dr. Michael Wenger 30. November 2020 |

The current head of government of Greenland, Kim Kielsen, was voted out yesterday in a party vote as leader of the Siumut party. He lost the vote by 39 votes to 32 to Erik Jensen. Jensen was a member of the government until last year and resigned after a dispute with Kielsen. At the same time as Kielsen was voted out, the entire party leadership was replaced. It is expected generally that with the loss of the party chairmanship, Kim Kielsen will also resign from his position as head of government, although this is not stipulated.

Erik Jensen, 45, lives in Sismiut, is married and has three children. Until November 2019, he was head of the Ministry for Mineral resources and labor in the KIelsen government. After an internal dispute with Kielsen, he resigned. Bild: Inatsisartut
