Moscow announces response to possible US weapons systems in Greenland.

Moscow states that a possible deployment of US weapons systems in Greenland would trigger corresponding responses. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov openly refers to “military-technical countermeasures” and makes clear that the Russian leadership views further militarisation of the High North as a direct threat.

The move comes at a sensitive moment: the last major nuclear arms control agreement between Russia and the United States is approaching its expiration.
