Russia issues missile warnings north of Norway

Russia has issued two warnings in recent weeks about planned missile activities in the Barents Sea north of Norway, including one during NATO’s Cold Response exercise in the High North.
The most recent warning, valid from 11–13 March, informed pilots and seafarers about possible activities in an area on both sides of the maritime boundary between Russia and Norway. No details were provided about the type of missiles.
The NATO exercise Cold Response is taking place across northern Norway, Finland, and Sweden. Around 25,000 personnel from 14 countries are participating. They are training under Arctic conditions, focusing on coordination with partners and carrying out operations in winter conditions.
This was the second warning within two weeks. At the end of February, authorities had already informed aviation and maritime organizations about possible activities north of Norway’s Varanger Peninsula. The affected area partly overlaps Norway’s exclusive economic zone.
Norwegian authorities confirmed that they are aware of the designated areas.
